What must a GST tax invoice include?
Under Rule 46 of the CGST Rules, a tax invoice needs the supplier's name, address and GSTIN, a unique invoice number and date, the buyer's name and address (and GSTIN if registered), place of supply, HSN or SAC code, description, quantity, taxable value, tax rate and amount for each tax, and a signature. This generator includes all of these fields.
CGST + SGST or IGST: which one applies?
If the seller's state and the place of supply are the same, it is an intra-state sale and the GST is split equally into CGST and SGST. If they are different, it is an inter-state sale and the full GST is charged as IGST. Change the states in the form and the invoice updates instantly.
What is a GSTIN and how is it structured?
A GSTIN is a 15-character number. The first 2 digits are the state code, the next 10 characters are the business PAN, then an entity number, the letter Z, and a check character. The tool warns you if a GSTIN does not match this pattern.
